Lest we forget.
War What is it good for? Absolutely nothing. was the first line of a song, yet our history is full of war and famous battles, whether famous because of being courageous, of a decision that hinged on a successful campaign and turned it into military blunder. From archaeology discoveries, we have learned Assryia was the first military state, and through the ages kings have become powerful and created huge empires, and have fallen.
But is there really a need for another webpage about the first and second world wars? And the answer is probably that the internet is already over subscribed with such sites. I never was interested in war as such, except for toy plastic soldiers, and like westerns there was goodies and badies.
After a number of years later I was invited to Poland, to Krakow, with a few friends whom I work with. Here we visited Oscar Schindler's factory, and learned how he had saved many Jewish people yet still working for the Nazis.
A few miles away are the remains of two camps. To the Jewish people sent here, were told lies, that they were going to be safe and work. But on arrival and to their horror, they realized this was the horror of horrors. But more about that as we browse the pages of this site.
Learning this, I realized there was more to the world wars than just a greedy dictator taking country after country. There was more to this war than meets the eye.
After the first world was over, the old world and ways had faded away into history. A new dawn, a new age the age of socialism, the age of monarchs was over.
